Vargas Girl inspired 'do
Tonight I decided to try an updo inspired by a Vargas Girl print...
It's basically just 4 small victory rolls... But I think it came out pretty well! I have a video tutorial in the works on how I did it that I'll post soon!

OH LOOK!
I'm posting an update! I know, you're shocked, since it's literally been ages since the last time I posted a for-real update. This will probably be a bit short and sweet, but it's an update nonetheless.
1. I am almost finished with my master's. This is pretty exciting... I'm writing my thesis on a 19th century African American community in midcoast Maine. It's really interesting. I'm looking forward to completing it, though I must say, I have a LOT of work to do. Yeesh.
2. Personally, I've really never been better as far as my happiness goes. Finally free of the funk of that terrible breakup I went through last year-ish and feeling great. I'm not looking for anyone right now, as I'm hoping to move as soon as humanly possible (read: as soon as I get some of this credit card/grad school debt paid off, which is happening at a decent rate since my etsy sales have been decent recently!)
3. My vintage-ing has been really great recently. The rest will be photos of some of my gorgeous finds recently...
a vintage 40s/50s Lord and Taylor gorgeous navy cape with a hood... Which, coincidentally, is available in my shop ;)
some new Jadeite to my collection. That sugar pourer is repro I believe (the type is wrong) but it's cute. And how adorbs are those scotty dogs?!
After almost buying (and paying for shipping) the milk glass mixing bowl for my vintage Sunbeam mixer, I found one thrifting for $10! I don't really use the thing (though, it definitely still works great, I just have a lovely red Kitchenaid that's pretty amazing). I need a hutch or something to house all of my lovely vintage housewares. I have so many now! Eek!
Speaking of new vintage housewares, I got this GORGEOUS midcentury bedroom set. I've been needing a new set for ages, and I found all three pieces for TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS. I KNOW. IT'S CRAZY. (This photo was taken at the thrift shop, those accessories aren't mine). It makes my heart swoon, and it's coming to me Saturday!!!!
Oh, and I found this charming jar of "Sta-So" hair dressing... I'm guessing from the label it's from the 30s or 40s. I love that it's milk glass... and I love even MORE that it still has some in it! It smells like paraffin wax and still feels very much like pomade. I won't be putting it into my hair any time soon, but it will make a charming addition on my bed table. I'm looking for a good mirror to go above my new dresser (the only downside to this set is that it's missing the original vanity mirror)... I'm going to an estate sale Friday, and I'm keeping an eye on craigslist, so here's hoping something cool comes up!
I hope everyone is doing well, and I'll do my best to update more often.

terrible blog upkeep and a vintage inspired kinda secret garden wedding.
i'm sorry i post so infrequently... this summer has been a bit crazy with trying to work on my master's thesis (requiring quite a few trips to various archival places), and several archaeological excavations requiring time away from the computer and into the sun! i do more frequently tumblr, so you can follow me on there if you feel so inclined (though i mostly reblog adorable photos of pretty ladies and kitties) vintage love
the other thing that completely occupied me was the wedding of my very best friend daise. daise and i met on the very first day of kindergarten. we will both be turning 28 this fall, so that gives you an idea of how long we have been besties! through thick and thin, she has been my rock, and we are like sisters. her family is mine and vice versa. this will be a bit of a photo-heavy post, to warn you in advance!
the bridal shower
so because our families are so close, and live in the same town, my mother threw daise her bridal shower at the end of july. i baked a cake, and we made a ton of food.
i baked a cake and i crocheted 25 hair flowers in the colors of her wedding- orange, yellow, green (and i threw in a few blue ones for good measure).
the bachelorette
so for her bachelorette i decided that i'd surprise her. we took a trip to the new england aquarium during the day (daise lovesssss fish), had a french brunch, then a fantastic vegetarian dinner at the red lentil, then went to a drag show! it was sooo fun and funny. a great time was had by all!
the wedding
daise's mom is an accomplished seamstress and made her wedding dress and the flower girl dress. aleta, daise's sister, and i ordered our dresses on etsy at time machine vintage. it was a gorgeous wedding, and a ton of work. i did all of the hair and makeup for the three of us as well.

quickly, i did this silly little tutorial. i will try to post actual photos of what this hairstyle looks like when i have someone who can photograph the back of my head, for i... suck at that. haha.
i suck at blogging.
